Two more steps toward impeachment

1. "A coalition of activist groups running the gamut of social and political issues will ask Congress to file a Resolution of Inquiry, the first necessary legal step to determine whether President Bush has committed impeachable offenses in misleading the country about his decision to go to war in Iraq, RAW STORY has learned.

"The formal Resolution of Inquiry request, written by Boston constitutional attorney John C. Bonifaz, cites the Downing Street Memo and issues surrounding the planning and execution of the Iraq war. A resolution of inquiry would force relevant House committees to vote on the record as to whether to support an investigation."

2.   In regards to what John Conyers over the weekend reportedly described as "the smoking bullet in the smoking gun", a letter has just been sent to Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, asking questions about the recent reports that the U.S. and U.K. stepped up their air attacks in the Iraqi "No-Fly-Zone" prior to the war in "an attempt to provoke Saddam Hussein into giving the allies an excuse for war."

A draft version of Conyers' letter was published over the holiday weekend by RAW STORY.

This latest information on the covert way in which the Bush Administration may have pushed the world towards war is based on a new report from Rupert Murdoch's London Times which reported over the weekend that "despite the lack of an Iraqi reaction, the air war began anyway in September [of 2002] with a 100-plane raid."

In fact, the original Downing Street Memo/Minutes mention that "The Defence Secretary said that the US had already begun 'spikes of activity' to put pressure on the regime."

Impeachment is imperative

by Carol Wolman

Bush's reckless use of illegal radioactive weaponry has spread mutagenic dust around the globe.  Bush is systematically gutting the international peace`treaties that have prevented nuclear holocaust for the past 60 years, and is seeking to develop and use "small" thermonuclear weapons.

Bush is leading us on a path of death, that could lead to extinction of life on earth.  Impeachment is imperative.

Now is the time.  We have the smoking gun needed to impeach Bush, in the form of the Downing Street memo.
This secret British memo of early 2002 proves that intelligence had to be cooked in order to justify the plan to invade Iraq, since there was, in reality, no justification.

The ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, John Conyers, has already taken the first step on the road to impeachment.  Mr. Conyers sent a letter to the pResident a couple of weeks ago demanding an explanation for the "smoking gun" memo.   Conyer's letter was cosigned by 88 Congresspeople.

The next step is a motion to impeach Mr. Bush, which would be introduced into the Judiciary Committee.

An impeachment motion has been sitting on Mr. Conyer's desk for years.  He needs a grassroots movement to propel it into the Committee for action.

Mr. Conyers is seeking a million signatures from US citizens.  Please join this effort at www.johnconyers.com

God is giving us an opportunity to get a real impeachment movement going.  It is our chance to save ourselves and our children from nuclear holocaust.  It may be our last chance.

We have the means, the motive and the opportunity to impeach George W. Bush.  If the will of the people is strong enough, we can override the corrupt politicians and save life on earth.  God is on OUR side, not on the side of the rulers, no matter how pious they appear.

Culture of life? by Carol Wolman

Mark 12:27He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

For the Radical Religious Right (RRR), affirming the "culture of life" means fighting to protect blastocysts, hollow spheres of about 80 newly fertilized, undifferentiated cells, from "embryonic stem cell research".  It means protecting a woman who has been brain-dead for 14 years from the efforts by her husband to end her suffering and that of her family.

It does NOT mean fighting for peace, in order to save the lives of 100,000 Iraqis.  It does NOT mean protecting thousands of fetuses that have been aborted or harmed by radioactive weaponry.  Invading Iraq and using these illegal weapons promote a culture of death, not of life.

Bush's policies are greatly increasing the chances of all-out nuclear holocaust, which could extinguish life on planet earth.  His profligate use of radioactive weaponry has already poisoned the gene pool for the next 4.5 billion years.  How is this a culture of life?

Bush is leading us on the path of death.  This is sanctioned by his religious buddies who preach the rapture cult.  Don't worry about the material reality of this earth, they tell us.  Just save your soul, and believe in "faith-based" reality.  The rapture spaceship will come by to pick you up before the "faith-based" president makes sure that all hell breaks loose.  All you have to do is accept Jesus as your PERSONAL savior, and forget that He came to save ALL of humanity. It's a self-serving, irresponsible doctrine, the opposite of everything Jesus taught and stood for.

This nonsense is a recipe for mass suicide, just as the millennial cults of Jonestown, Dravidian Branch, Heaven's Gate led to mass suicide.  Because the rapture cultists "sanctify" the destructive policies of the man with his finger on the button, they are leading us all to mass suicide.

How can we save our lives and the lives of all creatures on the planet, now and for the future?  How can we stop this maniac from laying the groundwork for all-out nuclear war?

As Paul Craig Roberts, of the right-wing Hoover Institute put it, "America can redeem itself only by holding Bush accountable."  http://www.lewrockwell.com/roberts/roberts101.html

A Reputation in Tatters
by Paul Craig Roberts

George W. Bush and his gang of neocon warmongers have destroyed America's reputation. It is likely to stay destroyed, because at this point the only way to restore America's reputation would be to impeach and convict President Bush for intentionally deceiving Congress and the American people in order to start a war of aggression against a country that posed no threat to the United States.

America can redeem itself only by holding Bush accountable.

As intent as Republicans were to impeach President Bill Clinton for lying about a sexual affair, they have a blind eye for President Bush's far more serious lies. Bush's lies have caused the deaths of tens of thousands of people, injured and maimed tens of thousands more, devastated a country, destroyed America's reputation, caused 1 billion Muslims to hate America, ruined our alliances with Europe, created a police state at home, and squandered $300 billion dollars and counting.

America's reputation is so damaged that not even our puppets can stand the heat. Anti-American riots, which have left Afghan cities and towns in flames and hospitals overflowing with casualties, have forced Bush's Afghan puppet, "President" Hamid Karzai, to assert his independence from his U.S. overlords. In a belated act of sovereignty, Karzai asserted authority over heavy-handed U.S. troops whose brutal and stupid ways sparked the devastating riots. Karzai demanded control of U.S. military activities in Afghanistan and called for the return of the Afghan detainees who are being held at the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

Abundant evidence now exists in the public domain to convict George W. Bush of the crime of the century. The secret British government memo (dated July 23, 2002, and available here), leaked to the Sunday Times (which printed it on May 1, 2005), reports that Bush wanted "to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism [9/11 - did they do it to justify a war?!] and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy. . . . But the case was thin. Saddam was not threatening his neighbors, and his WMD capability was less than that of Libya, North Korea or Iran. . . . The (United Kingdom) attorney general said that the desire for regime change was not a legal base for military action. There were three possible legal bases: self-defense, humanitarian intervention or UNSC (U.N. Security Council) authorization. The first and second could not be the base in this case. Relying on UNSCR 1205 of three years ago would be difficult."

This memo is the mother of all smoking guns. Why isn't Bush in the dock?
