A prayer for Cindy by Carol Wolman

A Prayer for Cindy by Carol Wolman

Cindy Sheehan, a 48 year old housewife from Vacaville, CA, is waiting patiently for the commander-in-chief to talk to her face to face.  She wants to ask him why he sent her son Casey to his death.  Cindy is sitting in a tent outside the Bush ranch in Crawford, Texas.  Her vigil has galvanized the peace movement.

I have never met Cindy, and don't know what she believes.  I do know that the Prince of Peace has a special blessing for peacemakers: Matthew 5:9  9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

As Bush pushes relentlessly to develop new nuclear weapons, and use them against Iran, as our military presence in Iraq continues to stir up hatred against the US and create more "terrorists", we desperately need peacemakers.  The hope of the world rests on the American peace movement.

Cindy was not politically active prior to Casey's death in Sadr City two years ago.  Since then, she has felt called to preach peace throughout the land.

Isaiah 6:8  Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

She helped found Gold Star Families for Peace, and is actively working for impeachment of Bush and Cheney, on the basis of the Downing Street Memos, which prove that they deliberately lied us into Iraq.

Cindy is eloquent in the service of peace.  For an example, see her recent speech to the Veterans for Peace meeting truthout - One Mother's Stand
She speaks from her heart, from her grief for her son.

Psalm 39:3  My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue.

Cindy speaks of the folly and destructiveness of war, and the need for truth.  She demands justice for the American people and the Iraqi people.  Surely the God of truth, justice, love and peace is guiding her.

2 Samuel 23:2
The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and His word was in my tongue.

Cindy has been accused of undermining the troops.  She has been made to walk in a ditch, threatened with arrest, harassed by Secret Service.
I pray for her protection.

Psalm 91:   4He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust: His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.    5Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day.

It is hot and dusty in Texas in August, and tent living is uncomfortable.  Cindy is being targeted by right-wing groups.  I pray for her strength.

Isaiah 40:31   But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

May He shower her with blessing, and may her vigil rouse the hearts of the American people, and lead to peace.

In the name of the Prince of Peace,  Carol Wolman
