Are We Doomed? by Carol Wolman

Are We Doomed? by Carol Wolman

John 12  47And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

According to rapture copout theology, Jesus will return to take those who believe in Him to heaven, and judge the rest of the world to be fit only for nuclear holocaust.  We who are not believers in the rapture will burn in the lake of fire.

Jesus says something entirely different.  He says that He comes to save us from our own cynicism, folly, and greed.

It's easy to be disgusted with homo sapiens, seeing what a mess we have made of this garden we were given, and what little regard we have for one another and for the plethora of other species, on whom we depend for oxygen, food, and refreshment for our souls.  We deserve to be extinct.

But we are told that God loves us and sent His son to save us.  Given the destructiveness of the self-proclaimed "Christians" who are taking us to hell as fast as they can, this is hard to believe. The Christofascists are amassing power.  The new pope grew up in the Hitler Jugend, and the Senate Majority leader is calling his opponents "anti-faith".  It's easy to throw Jesus out along with the false prophets who preach that earth will be destroyed, and who are working to fulfill their prophecy.

How can Jesus save us, when His name is so misused?  The answer is in our own hearts, where we can find the love that He personified.  The time of testing is upon us.  Can we love ourselves and our planet as He loved us?  and  can we lay down our lives, if needed, for our children and grandchildren, as He did for all of us?
