Subject: Messianic or Satanic? Without a Doubt By Ron Suskind- NYT
I urge everyone to read and disseminate an extraordinary article by Ron Suskind. (Ron Suskind was the senior national-affairs reporter for The Wall Street Journal from 1993 to 2000. He is the author most recently of ''The Price of Loyalty: George W. Bush, the White House and the Education of Paul O'Neill.'').

The article outlines the development of George W. Bush, in 3 short years, from an open, welcoming man to a closed-off tyrant, convinced that his "instincts" come from God and that he can do no wrong. Suskind is fair, highlighting Bush's strengths as well as his weaknesses.
The article makes it clear that Bush is messianic. He really believes that he is on a mission from God, and, so do enough Americans to make the election too close to call. Bush believes that he doesn't need to pay attention to reality because, as the messianic head of the world's only superpower, he creates a new reality as he goes along.
The new reality he is creating consists of death and destruction for thousands of Iraqis, unthinkable radioactive pollution of large patches of the planet, unimaginable damage to our fragile, stressed environment, a climate of fear and hatred at home and abroad, impoverishment of the American people, etc, etc, etc.
Many people have commented on the Orwellian nature of Bush's language: war = peace, freedom = slavery, etc. Try Messianic = Satanic.
Satan has taken over the White House and is systematically destroying everything we cherish. He has convinced a large number of Americans that a vote for Bush will ensure that they will be "raptured" when Jesus returns, and will escape "the tribulation" that will be the inevitable aftermath to Bush's policies.
If a strong impeachment movement had started a few months ago, things would be different today. But nobody listened to me. Now we are faced with a situation in which Bush has the country entranced via his filthy, lying, hate-filled media, and may well win the election. Lying is the hallmark of Satan, by the way.
Be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient;
convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.
convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.

I urge you to read the full article. I've chosen a few excerpts below, to give you the flavor.

"We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do." unnamed senior White House aide (sounds like Rove).
Lincoln Chafee, the moderate Republican senator from Rhode Island, has broken with the president precisely over concerns about the nature of Bush's certainty. "This issue," he says, of Bush's "announcing that 'I carry the word of God' is the key to the election."
"To me, I just believe God controls everything, and God uses the president to keep evil down, to see the darkness and protect this nation," Billington told me, voicing an idea shared by millions of Bush supporters. "Other people will not protect us. God gives people choices to make. God gave us this president to be the man to protect the nation at this time."
