Dear Friends,
Ramadan opened with suicide bombers inside the Green Zone in Baghdad, and a major assault by US forces on the city of Fallujah. For Muslims, Ramadan is a time of crisis and holy war, a time for encountering and crushing threats to the civilized peace established by Islam. http://www.nellaieruvadi.com/islam/ramadan_history.asp
We are standing on the brink of an abyss, across which the Zionist/Christian axis confronts Islam. As the Muslims enter Ramadan, they are prepared for a decisive battle with the invading Americans. Both sides are armed to the teeth. What can peacemakers do?
Muslims abstain from food and drink, sex and cigarettes from sunrise to sunset during Ramadan.
Fasting is a complete purification and a means to developing the consciousness of Allah's presence.
I believe, as the Muslims believe, in one God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The false Christian supporters of Bush will tell you that Allah is an ancient moon god. It is not true. The Qu'ran honors its lineage from the Judeo-Christian tradition. As the Muslims draw closer to God during Ramadan, we peacemakers should do the same.
From heaven the LORD looks down;
He sees all mankind.
He sees all mankind.
Psalm 33: 13
Allah, Yahweh, Jesus are all the same God, seeing every human being, no matter what the individual's belief. We are all relatives. We must learn to live in peace and harmony, or we will be no more.
I urge all peacemakers, whatever your beliefs, to join our Muslim brothers and sisters in fasting during the daylight hours during the month of Ramadan. This will help join our hearts to theirs, to stop the insane killing and destroying. There are hate filled fanatics on both sides. Hate is of the devil- God is love.
Fasting is not all or nothing. Children and travelers, sick people and people new to Islam are permitted to fast only partially, as they are not used to the rigors of all-day fasting. Skipping breakfast or lunch might be a good way to remind ourselves that our Muslim friends are in a heightened state of awareness, and we should be sensitive.
In the name of the Prince of Peace, Carol Wolman
