Dear Friends,

 

I am privileged to have a learned friend in Jordan who explains Islam to me.  He prefers to remain anonymous, but gave me permission to forward the following email on the subject of Islam. 

 

I continue to fast from sunup to sundown, in solidarity with my Muslim brothers and sisters.  It's easy, and exhilarating, and is leading me to new insights on the world situation.  Ramadan continues until November 14th, so there's plenty of opportunity to fast for a day or two, or even part of a day.  Please join me in fasting for peace.

It’s really nice experience to practice fasting; wise people always try to live the same conditions under which other people live, so they would understand things better.

 

Regarding the issue of being Muslim, it’s not difficult at all, because it’s a relation between you and your God. You don’t have to go somewhere or pay something to someone in able to accept to add you to this group. No one in Islam considered being a link between you and your God, there is a direct connection between you and your lord.

 

To say the truth, many people are Muslims while they don’t know. The matter is so easy if you believe that there is One God who is the God of all creatures, who sent all the prophets  and messengers through out all the life and human history. So this is the main Idea, it’s not difficult, on the contrary it’s logical that the almighty God is one and hasn’t been changed among the years, he created everything and able to do everything, he is merciful.

 

The God has sent prophets to teach people how to worship their God, because if they left alone without guidance they may go in wrong ways of worship, for example they may worship false people who they claim that they are close to God, or they are relatives to him. All human kind seek the almighty God to tell him about their sadness and ask him for help, all of us when we feel that no power on earth can help us we look to the sky and say, please God help me all your creatures are weak and they let me down I know you hear me and will interfere at the suitable time to let me know that you are the only real power. That happens with all people who are in troubles, but unfortunately when their troubles relieved they forget their promise to the God to be good people after that test. God usually don’t punish directly because he is merciful, he give many chances to return back to him.

 

All of us are creatures of the God, no one can say that I’m better that the other. because there is one God so all worship for that God in the same way, through out history religion was the teachings of prophets, they were telling same basic teachings, to be honest, not to kill, not to be thief, don’t hurt others, love your neighbors, so on. They always told about the same God, but when these prophets die then new generations start to do wrong things in worship and may make that prophet a God or a son of God and worship him instead.  So many prophets were sent in history each of them to his country. Finally God sent his last prophet Mohammad to all human kind not for specific group of people, he was a normal man not a God, his major miracle was the Quran , which is the words of God and cant be similar to any other words, for many reasons, Allah challenge people to create similar words, but they couldn’t . Allah made it the everlasting Miracle and promise to keep it safe until the judgment day on the contrary of other previous books which were changed by the men of religion to make it achieve their purposes. So it’s important to know that there is no one should be called religion man, or some one close to God, because everything except God is creature, and our way to Allah is opened wide directly without the need to seek permission of any one of the creatures, even prophets they were only teachers.

So submission to Allah, the only God who sent the teachers”messengers or prophets” is the exact meaning of Islam, “if you referred to some dictionary you will see that the origin of the Arabic word “Islam” is “to submit” “then it was taken to be the description of those who believe that you should only submit to only one thing in life which is the GOD.

 

Most people believe in that there is only one God deserve obeying, who see you and care of you. So they have the basic idea in Islam.

 

To believe in something you should do what it needs from you, you should be honest, don’t hurt others, love your parents and take care of them, pray each day in the way that Mohammad taught us, fast Ramadan, help poor people, go to pilgrimage if you are able to do.

 

All believers from the beginning of life until now believe in one God and obey ”submit” his orders so they are submitter” Muslims” , now it’s clear why Islam ”submission” is not new, but it was that thing which all prophets was calling for all over the life. Moses was obeying only Allah, Jesus was obeying only Allah, Mohammad was obeying only Allah. So they were submitting only to Allah, then all are submitters “Muslims”.
