Listen over here, Lord, by Carol Wolman

Jesus told his disciples a parable
about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.
Luke 18: 1

Dear Lord,

My country is deeply divided.  The rich and powerful wolves are holding us all hostage, using Your precious name as their sheep's cloak.

Send us a leader like Martin Luther King,  someone who can reclaim You and Your son for justice, truth and peace.  The evil ones have systematically assassinated our brave articulate leaders: King, 3 Kennedys, Carnahan, Wellstones, many others.  We, the peacelovers of America are bereft.

My friend Sherry Glaser has a prayer "Listen over here, Lord.  Listen to us: poor people, single mothers, lovers of life and the earth.  Please, Lord, listen over here".

Your sheep are headed over a cliff, goaded by the false prophets who back the evil politicians.  The sheep have been praying loudly for the hypocritical pious rulers, and You seem to have heard their prayers and granted them victory.  Yet, in listening to the false prophets, they betray everything You stand for.   Listen over here, Lord.

The "progressives", the antiBushistas in America, have forgotten how to pray.  Yet you know what is in our hearts, Lord.  We long for peace, for sanity, for a future here on planet earth for our children and grandchildren.

Teach us to pray, Lord, and listen over here.  Teach us that only if we turn to You and acknowledge You, will our prayers be granted.

In the name of the Prince of Peace,   Carol Wolman
Gospel
Lk 18:1-8
Jesus told his disciples a parable
about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.
He said, "There was a judge in a certain town
who neither feared God nor respected any human being.
And a widow in that town used to come to him and say,
‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.'
For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought,
‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being,
because this widow keeps bothering me
I shall deliver a just decision for her
lest she finally come and strike me.'"
The Lord said, "Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says.
Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones
who call out to him day and night?
Will he be slow to answer them?
I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily.
But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"
