Truth and Righteousness by Carol Wolman

Truth and Righteousness by Carol Wolman

Psalm 85:   11Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

Words like "truth" and "righteousness" are sharp and clear.  They have a definite meaning, and a healthy society respects them.

American society these days is very sick.  The leaders claim to be pious Christians, who respect the word of God, yet they have no respect for truth.  Righteousness means whatever is right for them, not for the American people whom they are supposed to be serving, and not what is right for God.  The American people are confused and do not discern or demand the truth, and have plenty of self-righteousness, but no real sense of right and wrong.  Otherwise, there would be outrage about torture by Americans in prisons around the world.

Psalm 85:  8I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.

War in the nuclear age is folly.  God speaks peace.  Bush calls himself the war president.  We see the folly of war in the Iraq mess, and yet there are rumors of more wars- with Iran, Syria, North Korea.  Bush cannot hear the word of peace, and persists in his folly.

The Downing Street document states that " the facts were fixed to suit the policy".   In other words, Bush knowingly lied about WMD in Iraq, in order to start a war.   Cheney is equally culpable, because he is the one who repeatedly visited the CIA to make sure their intelligence reports fit the already decided upon policy- to invade Iraq.

Psalm 85:   11Truth shall spring out of the earth.

The truth must come from the people, from the grass roots, from the salt of the earth.  We are being harmed by the pious politicians, especially by their war, and this is our truth.

Psalm 85:   11Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

If we assert our truth by way of a mass movement of citizens for impeachment, righteousness will look down from heaven.  A sense of fervent rectitude can overcome great odds, nonviolently, as Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. showed us.  This is what is meant by "God is on our side".  It means that we possess the truth, and this knowledge will provide us with the will, the strength, the spirit to prevail.

Impeachment is peaceful.  God is smiling upon us.  He has provided us with a "smoking gun", a strong leader in John Conyers, and plenty of grievances.  Let us seize upon the lies about WMD's in Iraq, and impeach Bush and Cheney.
